Reserve your spot with us each Friday this Spring for a unique nature experience perfect for your young foragers and gatherers! Led by Mandi Michielsen of Hum Wildcraft, your child will learn how to identify the Plant of the Week and receive important safety and permission guidelines. After a short walk behind the shop (no worries, it's not too far for little legs!), the group will visit and explore the herb of the week. Then, we'll return to the shop for a light snack featuring the herb and discuss how to make refreshing preparations with it at home. We look forward to connecting with you and your little one at the shop for this special time together!
Suggested ages: 3-10 years old, though all interested kids are welcomed!
Suggested attire and tools: Dress for the weather. Boots or shoes, and clothes that can get dirty. Basket or bag for collecting. A notebook for sketching or taking notes if desired.
*Only a child's ticket is required to be purchased. Adults are not charged for, but are expected to stay with child for the duration of the event.
About the Instructor:
Mandi’s earliest memory foraging was eating wild chives waiting for the bus as a kid. Now she forages over 100 species annually, which she incorporates into her daily cooking and herbal medicine practice. She has taught native landscaping classes at Frederick Meijer Gardens, led foraging experiences, and created interactive learning activities for kids. In 2024 she studied under renowned herbalist jim mcdonald and is constantly reading Ethnobotanical and herbal texts. She fully believes that reconnecting people to plants as food and medicine is the balm to heal the world.
Workshop will start and end at Gathered Botanicals storefront:
781 College Ave NE
Grand Rapids, MI 49503
There is free street parking around the shop off of Bradford ave, and College ave. There is one designated handicap parking space in the back of the building. Shop is wheelchair-accessible.
